Dental Implants

Dental Implants

Dental implants are small titanium screws that replace the root of a tooth that has been lost or extracted. The implant is inserted under the gum line, and a crown is placed on top of the implant post after the site heals.

Dental implants are made from biocompatible materials, so they will not cause the body to reject them. The patient’s general and oral health may impact their eligibility for dental implants. Healthy patients with good oral hygiene habits who have lost one or more of their teeth are the ideal candidates for dental implants.

At Sedation Dental Spa of South Florida, dental implants are a popular tooth replacement option because they are permanent. Other options, like dentures, must be removed at night for cleaning and replaced every five to ten years. In contrast, dental implants can last for a lifetime with proper care and maintenance.

The Procedure for Dental Implants

A dental implant is an artificial tooth root shaped like a screw that is surgically implanted into your jawbone to act as a replacement tooth root. The post is made from titanium, a strong material that the body tolerates well, and fuses with the bone in a process called osseointegration.

Once the post fuses with the jawbone, it becomes your replacement tooth’s foundation. An abutment is then attached to the post, which is the piece that connects the artificial tooth to the implant. Once the site heals, the implant-supported crown can be placed over the abutment.

Your new tooth will be fully functional and look and feel just like a natural tooth. Dental implants are the only treatment option that can also replace your missing tooth’s roots and they help preserve the health and stability of your mouth.

The Advantages of Dental Implants

Dental implants look and perform like natural teeth, so you can speak and eat confidently. Plus, implants last much longer than other tooth replacement options, such as dentures. Your dental implant could last for the rest of your life with proper care!
You can brush and floss normally because an implant is a permanent part of your smile. Unlike dental bridges or partial dentures, there’s no need to take your implant out to clean it. Simply follow good oral hygiene habits at home to keep your restoration in tip-top shape!
Missing teeth can lead to various issues, including shifting teeth and jawbone deterioration. Dental implants help protect the health of your smile and body by stimulating the jaw to prevent bone loss.
